Aurora-Winter-Festival

Aurora Winter Festival

Close to our Vancouver English Centre and to Science World you find the Aurora Winter Festival. It is Canada’s largest Winter Festival and offers several attractions and activities from Friday, November 23rd to Sunday, December 30th. Gather your friends and explore this magical Christmas village. Go ice skating on a frozen river and enjoy the lights all around you. Rent your skates for $7 and skate as long as you want. Take a ride on the tube park which is 200 feet (60 metres) long and 20 feet (6 metres) tall. One ride is $4, three rides are $10 and eight rides are $20. Get on the 60 feet (18 metres) ferris wheel and see the whole festival event site and everything around it. Next to the amusement rides you can also discover the Christmas village. There you will find 50 market vendors and 12 food trucks with delicious snacks, drinks and meals. Have some hot chocolate or mulled wine while you are shopping for your Christmas gifts. Meet Santa, his elves and other mystical characters. Take pictures with all of them and write a letter to Santa. Listen to their stories and participate in a workshop to create your own gifts. Huge sculptures and beautiful light arrangements are waiting for you to be captured with your camera. A general admission ticket is $19.99 plus tax. It is cheaper to buy your ticket online than at the box office. To avoid big crowds and long lines join the festival from Tuesday to Thursday. Check the ticket availability for your day on the Aurora Winter Festival website. It will tell you if tickets are available, limited or sold out. Have fun!

Capilano-Suspension-Christmas-Lights

Capilano Canyon Lights

The Capilano Suspension Bridge itself is already a popular tourist attraction but around Christmas time it turns into a Winter Lights Festival. If you have booked your English courses in Vancouver some time between November 22, 2018 and January 27, 2019 you get to enjoy this special event on your visit to see the Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Experience the Canyon Lights within the park hours from 11 am to 9 pm. They will make you feel like you are in a Christmas movie. If you do not want to wait in line for a long time, we recommend going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge on a weekday instead of a weekend and before December 21st or after January 6th. The beautiful lights all over the park are amazing and will give you the perfect feeling of the holiday season. Not only the suspension bridge is lit up but the Canyon Lights also illuminate all of the treetop-walks, the Cliffwalk, the canyon itself and large parts of the rainforest around the bridge. This overwhelming spectacle will create memories you will never forget. Another highlight of the Canyon Lights Festival are the eight 110 feet tall Douglas-firs which are 250 years old. Seven suspension bridges connect the trees’ viewing platforms. Below and above these viewing platforms the trees are decorated with lights as well. If you go to see these trees you can say that you’ve seen the eight highest Christmas trees worldwide. Although the Canyon Lights are mainly about the amazement with the lights, there are some other activities you can participate in. You’re welcome to sing along to your favorite Christmas songs performed by a band and to get creative by decorating your gingerbread cookies there. Like we do for all of our activities, we recommend … Read more
