Student ambassador Matheus Lins

“The photo shows my first sunny day in Vancouver in winter, haha!” – Matheus Lins, student ambassador. Hey guys, how are you? My name is Matheus Lins, I’m 23 and I’m Brazilian! I’ve been in Vancouver for almost one month and on March 8th I’m going back to Brazil, but no stress, haha, 2019 is my graduation year in Brazil, so, I’m very happy and until March 8th I intend to enjoy all moments in Vancouver. My experience has been incredible so far, starting at school, I could meet many people. Every day I have the opportunity to learn English in Canada with different students and knowing more about their culture and sharing more about what I know. Vancouver became more than I was imagining. To be here is a unique opportunity! Vancouver is special in everything, the streets, the landscapes, the people and how the city works. I think that I would need much more time to really get to know Vancouver! I like the free activities here and my favorite place is Stanley Park! It is so beautiful, Stanley Park is too good to be true. For me, this shows how Canada treats the environment and that makes Vancouver a special city, different from other cities! Besides that, there are other parks here and each one has a special way. I recommend Lynn Canyon Park and Van Dusen Park too. Another thing that I really like is to try different foods and Vancouver is the best place to do this! It’s common to eat fast food and pizza, of course, but sometimes it is worth risking to try different foods. I already tried Japanese food, Vietnamese food, Mexican food, Filipin food etc. Each day is a different adventure and I’m enjoying it to the fullest! Contact EC’s front … Read more

Capilano Canyon Lights

The Capilano Suspension Bridge itself is already a popular tourist attraction but around Christmas time it turns into a Winter Lights Festival. If you have booked your English courses in Vancouver some time between November 22, 2018 and January 27, 2019 you get to enjoy this special event on your visit to see the Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Experience the Canyon Lights within the park hours from 11 am to 9 pm. They will make you feel like you are in a Christmas movie. If you do not want to wait in line for a long time, we recommend going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge on a weekday instead of a weekend and before December 21st or after January 6th. The beautiful lights all over the park are amazing and will give you the perfect feeling of the holiday season. Not only the suspension bridge is lit up but the Canyon Lights also illuminate all of the treetop-walks, the Cliffwalk, the canyon itself and large parts of the rainforest around the bridge. This overwhelming spectacle will create memories you will never forget. Another highlight of the Canyon Lights Festival are the eight 110 feet tall Douglas-firs which are 250 years old. Seven suspension bridges connect the trees’ viewing platforms. Below and above these viewing platforms the trees are decorated with lights as well. If you go to see these trees you can say that you’ve seen the eight highest Christmas trees worldwide. Although the Canyon Lights are mainly about the amazement with the lights, there are some other activities you can participate in. You’re welcome to sing along to your favorite Christmas songs performed by a band and to get creative by decorating your gingerbread cookies there. Like we do for all of our activities, we recommend … Read more

Escape Room Adventure

While our English courses in Vancouver help you to improve your English skills, our afternoon activities, such as going to an escape room, help you to enhance your teamwork skills. Escape rooms are fun for every age. It’s a real-life game in which a team actually gets locked up in a room and tries to escape by finding clues and solving puzzles. Escaping is only possible if the group works together as a team. Not only the riddles are challenging but there is also a time limit of 45 to 60 minutes to escape. Each escape room can only be visited once because there is no point in escaping again if you already know how to solve all the puzzles. Fortunately, every escape room usually offers different games with varying themes and there are several escape room locations all over Vancouver which each have their individual storylines. In order to escape you sometimes have to make it through just a single or even multiple rooms with your team. This adventure will make you think outside the box and broaden your horizons. You will be surprised when people in your group come up with ideas you never even thought of. It is a great feeling when you manage to escape together with your team and students who were only your classmates become your friends throughout the game. A collective success makes everyone in your team a winner and you all will go home as escape room experts. Sign up for our weekly activities which you will find in our monthly activity calendar on EC online and experience it for yourself.
