Pamela is our new student ambassador. She answered some questions for us, so get to know her a bit better. 1. What´s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I´m from México, a big country with a lot of biodiversity, cultures, wide gastronomy and incredible traditions. I was born in Guanajuato a small town located in the center of Mexico it´s a place full of celebrations, colors, architecture and history. Guanajuato is also the birth place of Mexican muralist painter Diego Rivera. One of our most important festivals is the FIC (International Cervantino Festival) takes place each october for two to three weeks, is a cultural buffet of music, theater, art and folklore; each year different countries throughout the world states within Mexico are invited to participate at the event. 2. What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? Before coming to EC Oxford I was a student in Guanajuato finishing my high school. I took a year off to improve my English and be able to know other cultures and parts of the world. I want to study marketing when i get back to Mexico and save money to travel more. 3. What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? My favorite thing about coming to EC is that every day you meet people new and creates friendships for all your life from all over the world, and learn not only English you can also learn about the cultures and ways of living in the world. 4. What do you recommend in Oxford for other students? Don´t waste your time and enjoy the best you can. In Oxford it is easy to appreciate the beatiful Gothic architecture everywhere, you must know al least one collage, prove some of the delicious restaurants and handmade bakeries. I … Read more

meet Marlene: our new student ambassador

Marlene is our new student ambassador. She answered some questions for us, so get to know her a bit better. 1.What’s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I am from Mexico a country in North America full of colours, tourism, food and services. I was born in Coahuila a state in the north with too many services and a diverse climate. When I turned 6 I moved to Tamaulipas because of my father’s work in a completely hot and bilingual state on its border with the United States. 2 years later I moved to Durango a cold, small and cozy state where I spent most of my life. Then I went to study in Jalisco a degree for almost 4 years, a rainy state, large, full of tourism goods and services. And the state where I live today. Thanks to all this I have had the opportunity to know different places and environments and people within Mexico. 2.What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? Before having this incredible opportunity, I finished my career and my degree exam in the Bachelor of International Relations at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. 3.What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford?. EC Oxford offers a warm and friendly atmosphere to learn English as well as staff and students. EC Oxford offers different opportunities and environments to encourage you to improve your English! Practicing day by day with a balance in writing, speaking, reading and grammar classes. Welcome to Malouke: our new student ambassador

We have another new student ambassador: Malouke. We asked her some questions to get to know her better. 1.What’s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I’m from The Netherlands. It’s a small country, but very beautiful and with a lot of history. I live in a small town called Laren. It has a very close community and we almost all know each other. The town council organises a lot of activities, for example this year we had a small food truck festival. Which was very fun. 2.What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? Before coming to Oxford to study English at EC, I was a student at the Comenius College in Hilversum. It’s around 30 minutes with my bike from where I live. After I graduated high school, I started with my gap year. I worked for 2 months at a restaurant. 3.What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? My favourite thing about studying English at EC Oxford is definitely how close everyone is, everyone knows one another. Also the way of teaching, it’s not boring and the teachers are great. I think this makes learning a lot more fun. Not to mention the small classes, this way you get a lot of personal attention. The topic of the week is something I also really like, it’s nice that the school helps you get to know new students and helps you with doing stuff after school if you don’t have plans already. By making the students choose the topic of the week you really feel like your voice matters, which is great! 4.What do you recommend in Oxford for other students? Get to know Koki: our new student ambassador

Koki is one of our new student ambassadors. To get to know him a bit better, we asked him to answer some questions. 1.What’s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I’m from Japan and my hometown is Shiga. Shiga is in a west part of Japan. It’s far from Tokyo which is capital city of Japan. However It is located next to Kyoto which is popular to foreign countries people. My hometown has the biggest lake of Japan. We can enjoy swimming in the lake in summer. Also we have many temples or shrines so you can enjoy both nature and history. 2.What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? Before I come to Oxford, I have worked on cosmetic company in Japan. I was in sales department and negotiated with wholesalers to recommend our products to consumers. And then my company changed my position and sent EC Oxford me to improve my English. 3.What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? EC Oxford always gives me good opportunities to study English. I think all teachers think about students seriously to improve their skill of English. They always enjoy teaching us and try to find the best way to teach English. So I feel I should react them seriously. This has good influence to each other. 4.What do you recommend in Oxford for other students? You are so lucky to come to Oxford. You should enjoy Oxford as much as you can. Oxford is old city and has so many amazing building. You can enjoy old atmosphere. Some of them were used to make Harry Potter. You can take picture there. Many friends of you will envy you. 1.What’s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? • I’m from Colombia, one of the most beautiful countries in South America, I was born in Bucaramanga, a wonderful city full of colour and tradition, two months later I moved to Melgara – a small town where I grew up. All my life I kept moving around Colombia because of the work of my father. This gave me the opportunity to know more about my amazing country.     2.What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? • Before this fantastic experience I was a student in Colombia finishing my high school, after that I started my university in Bogota, the capital. I did my first semester of law and I will finish when I get back Colombia.   3.What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? • EC English school in Oxford gives you a lot of opportunities and challenges that encourage you to give everything. This is great because you try and try to push yourself and this makes your English better and better. The way of learning in EC is quite different to others, here we are a family, we share a lot of time and our memories becomes one. 4.What do you recommend in Oxford for other students? • You need to enjoy this experience the most as possible, I came for six months and now I just have one left. Time flies and you can’t notice, but at the end when you open your eyes you’re in a plane going back home. 1. What’s your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I’m from Bogota the capital of Colombia. I grew up in Chia a small town next to Bogota and just 3 years ago I moved to the capital with my family. This city welcome people around the country and also around the world, that’s what makes Bogota multicultural. There are around 50 museums and what’s more the centre of Bogota “La Candelaria” is the historic centre of Bogota and the home to the top museums, the government palaces and beautiful old colonial buildings. 2. What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? The last year I finished my university and I obtained a Business Administration degree. After that I’d been working in a bank for 10 months in the marketing department before I came to EC. Now I’m looking for my masters on International Business Development or Innovation Management in the UK or Europe. 3. What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? The first day I got to the school in Oxford I felt a warm welcome. The students and all the staff team are friendly and make you feel like home. My favourite thing is that the teachers teach you not only the formal English but perhaps the daily English, so you could learn the words that people use outside the school. In addition, all the weeks there is an afternoon clinic about grammar, speaking, listening, etc. where you can practice your English skills and answer all the questions that you might have. 4. Student Ambassadors play a vital role at EC Oxford. They provide support and assistance to the staff and students, organise activities such as Dinner Club and Cinema trips, and are always there to provide a friendly smile and great company! Last month we asked our students to vote for Student Ambassadors; someone who is motivated, friendly and helpful. We received many votes and now have 4 amazing student ambassadors. Here we find out about Gabriel from Brazil: 1. Where is your hometown? Can you describe it to us? I’m from Brazil but not from a known city, even to the Brazilians it is always a challenge to explain where I come form. I was born in Pato Branco and I grew up in Mangueirinha, a small city in the south part of my country, it is almost a village with just 16 thousand habitants. Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the local economy as well as the generation of energy, there is a hydro-electric plant which employs hundreds of people.   2. What did you do before coming to EC Oxford? I had been studying Civil Engineering for 3 years before I came to EC Oxford, when my experience here is over I intend to finish my course.   3. What is your favourite thing about studying at EC Oxford? The atmosphere inside of the class and out of it is amazing, making new friends is very easy, and I’m not just talking about the students, but all staff team also. Every day, in the afternoon, we have a different activity that can be a extra class, a event like welcome or farewell one.
